Road Construction Ahead
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is now moving into the construction phase of the Birmingham Northern Beltline, a 52-mile, six lane corridor that will stretch from I-59 in northeast Jefferson County to the I-459 interchange with I-20/59 near Bessemer.
Construction on the first phase of the project, a 1.34 mile highway from SR 79 to SR 75 is scheduled to begin in 2014.
We hope you will visit this website often to check the progress of the Beltline. Should you have any questions, please feel free to email or call us on the project's dedicated hotline.
ALDOT thanks you for your interest as we move forward with our mission of providing a safe, efficient and environmentally-sound Northern Beltline in Birmingham.
Were Looking For A Few Good Volunteers
Nomination deadline extended to December 6, 2013!
Feedback from the community is an important aspect of the project. One of the most vital communication outlets is the Community Outreach Group (COG), a volunteer group of private citizens that asks questions, gets answers and offers suggestions directly to ALDOT while relaying information back to other members of the community.
ALDOT is actively seeking nominations to this group now. Anyone with an interest in the project who is able to attend regular committee and public meetings is eligible and is encouraged to submit a COG nomination. If you are interested in serving on this group please click here to view the nomination form. All nominations will be reviewed and selected by an independent committee.
Nominations will be closed on December 6, 2013 and the selection committee's decisions will be determined in the first quarter of 2014. Those selected will be contacted during that month.
Our first COG orientation meeting will be held after members are selected.
